“The Nolcha Shows is a GREAT platform and opportunity for spring-boarding emerging designers into the dynamic world of fashion. Being accepted to participate in such a notable event in the incubator stage of my journey is beyond exciting and nerve-wrecking, but I am looking forward to the experience and lessons that will be learnt from participating. I am not sure what to expect neither do I have any expectations, so I am going in with an open-mind and ecstatic to add this experience to pages of my story book.” 

Background

Olivia B is a Cayman artist of various forms–singer, painter, makeup artist and fashion/style blogger and has quickly become a household name on her piece of paradise, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.

Working in the finance industry for well over 17 years, Olivia immerses herself in various art forms as a creative outlet to express herself and maintain balance. Although the brand Olivia B is new to runways, her passion for fashion started at an early age where she spent countless hours watching her mother craft eye-catching, one-of-a-kind pieces. Unfortunately, while she never actually attempted to make an outfit herself, she helped her mother with sketches and style ideas which at the time, was equally as important as being able to make an outfit.

Over the years, Olivia designed outfits for herself but first appeared as a designer in 2014 at the Fashion at Heart Red Dress event in Grand Cayman; an event hosted in an effort to help bring awareness to heart disease. In 2015, she debuted her very first collection at Allure Fashion Weekend Grand Cayman and received overwhelming support from the crowd as each piece was modeled on the runway. Since the debut, Olivia has designed for Miss Cayman Islands 2008 and reigning queen, Miss Cayman Islands 2016, Monyque Brooks.

VISION

My vision for the brand Olivia B is to first and foremost place the Cayman Islands on the “map” as a fashion-conscious destination and secondly to reflect my distinct personal style, passion and appreciation for fashion on an international level, with the ultimate goal to change the way women express their femininity through quality clothes.

Bright, bold colours, reflective of my personality and vibrant mixed culture of the Caribbean.

INFLUENCE

As an artist and avid traveler, Olivia draws inspiration from everything around her. In the words of Coco Chanel, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
