Jess Rizzuti Finalist in 2012 Independent Handbag Designer Awards

May 23, 2012

We recently caught up with Jess Rizzuti, one of our featured designers whose “Olivia” handbag line has landed her a finalist spot for the second year in a row with the Independent Handbag Designer Awards- only a select 30 out of hundreds of designers receive this honor!  Jess is nominated in both the “Best Green” category (her handbag is made entirely of cork!) as well as “Fan Favorite”.

Jess, we are so excited for the success of your line and the recognition you have received.   What was the inspiration for this bag and what do you think makes it stand out as one of this year’s top picks?

The inspiration while creating the “Olivia” bag was today’s modern woman who is both chic and eco-conscious. With a textiles background, a main focus of mine has always been to explore the possibility of unconventional materials and make them my own.

What do you think was the biggest factor in getting your name out there as an independent designer and what has contributed to the success you’ve had the past two years in the IHDA?

Getting my brand out there has taken constant hard work and perseverance. I think I’ve established a presence through social media outlets, participating in shows, and gaining press along the way. It’s an amazing accomplishment to be nominated two years in a row for Best Green Handbag, and be recognized among top handbag designers in the industry.

What words of wisdom would you give to aspiring designers out there looking to build their own line?

Follow your dreams.

We wish you the best of luck with the awards and are looking forward to your future collections!  You can vote for Jess’s design in the fan favorite category at:
