Ones to Watch Minan Wong: This week the Nolcha Shows team have had the opportunity to catch up with independent fashion designer Mimi Wong of womenswear brand Minan Wong to chat about the brand and what 2016 holds.
It started when I was a little girl watching movies of Audrey Hepburn and playing with paper doll cut outs from department store circulars. Dreaming of all the fashions I wish I had. I think for me, it just naturally happened.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR BRAND?
I would describe Minan Wong as “fashionable yet sustainable” exuding a vibrant, youthful aura and celebrating the strength of a woman.
WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE BEING IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY?
The list of challenges are endless but I think for my brand the main challenges that I face are sourcing and using sustainable materials as they are limiting. Additionally trying to keep pricing down while still offering high quality and workmanship to my customers. I do believe that a challenge for many is marketing the brand without showing your collection to the mass market six months prior to selling and having similar styles out in the market two weeks later!
WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR INSPIRATION FROM WHEN CREATING YOUR NEW COLLECTIONS?
It can come from many different sources but living in NYC the inspiration just comes to you from your everyday surrounding, which I love!
WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCE?
I don’t think there’s just one but Audrey Hepburn, Angelina Jolie, Emma Watson, Duchess Kate and many strong willful women who want to make a change in this world.
WHAT DOES 2016 HOLD FOR THE BRAND?
I look forward to wowing my customers with my Spring 17 collection in September!! Can’t wait!
