We were lucky enough to catch up with independent fashion designer Giorgio Filippi of CODICE. CODICE are set to showcase their SS15 collection on the Nolcha Fashion Week: New York September 2014 runway show.
CODICE embodies the polished, sophisticated ease that are the hallmarks of Italian style in a clean, spare, yet never overly basic collection of knit tops, t-shirts, polos & fine gauge sweaters. Their SS15 influence comes from all things vintage.
Why did you decide to become a fashion designer? In 2004. When I was the export manager, my “designers” were not able to understand my vision of the collection I wanted for the export markets, that’s when I decided to do my own collection.
What’s it like being in the fashion industry? It is like a piece of steel waiting to be hammered…. It is fun but the selling season is so demanding that there’s not enough time to do everything you need to do. It keeps you thinking you are young and dynamic but it is a hard job.
How would you describe your brand? Simply cool & different.
What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far? The first sample I saw with my own brand “CODICE” on it. I have worked with and for different brand names and VIP designers in the past, nothing is really like doing something on your own.
What is the inspiration behind your collection? I look at how easy men like to dress and what they like to wear. if I see many men wearing denim jeans then I must make some kind of top to go with denim jeans.
Describe your ideal consumer. Fashion oriented but not crazy about fashion. It is not for the short & fast trends, a cool and different men with taste, aged between 30 & 60. A lot of 60 year old guys can be much younger and cooler than boring kids!
What is your favourite piece and why? Denim & sneakers. They are easy to wear and fun. You can make a great outfit with a great pair of jeans, sneakers and a simple white v tee. what else do you need?
If you could have any celebrity spokesmodel, who would it be? Ewan Mcgregor, the Scottish actor.
What store would you love to have your clothes in? Saks 5th avenue for the prestige maybe but I would rather have 150 independent stores with a future vision for the fun.
What does 2014 hold for the brand? We will keep on thinking forward and try somehow to get even cooler. Tomorrow is now.
“If you think your closet is old and dated, make it cooler and be different, simply buy CODICE and you will feel cool!”
