This week we had the chance to catch up with Italian born, New York based independent fashion designer Danilo Gabrielli to discuss his collections and what 2014 holds for the brand.
The Danilo Gabrielli brand is a high end fashion label founded by Italian designer, Danilo Gabrielli, with the mission to create beautiful, timeless designs for women that allow them to feel elegant and confident.
The brand was born in New York in September 2011 and expanded into the UK market in May 2012; produced locally and inspired globally. Rustic Italian roots, London artisans and an American dream makes Danilo Gabrielli a brand that is unique in sentiment, dramatic in design and luxurious in quality.
Why did you decide to become a fashion designer? I have always had a love for clothes, not because I’m a material person or because “I love to shop” (Which I do actually Ha!). But I’ve always had a love for clothes because it’s a perfect way to express yourself . I love clothes and I don’t care about testing the waters . I’ve made some crazy , some ugly , and some beautiful clothes , and I’m proud of them all!
What’s it like being in the fashion industry? It’s an industry with so many mixed emotions. First you must work very hard, you have to dedicate yourself 100% to this business even without any guarantees, but for how hard this industry is I love the fact that I can get to influence other peoples fashion sense, and that I get to work with other creative, and talented people.
Most of all I love that you can decide the image your designs put out to the fashion world.
How would you describe your brand? My brand is very unique, strong and edgy. It allows women who are confident with themselves to express themselves with their look and their clothes.
My collections have a lot of attention to design and small details. It has the Italian tradition of quality and creativity.
What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far? The highlight for me so far is having features in some of the most prestigious fashion magazines like Vogue UK, Glamour UK, Harper Bazaar UK, Elle UK , and many others as well as being interviewed to some of the top TV channels like NY1, channel 7 and FASHION TV all over Europe.
What is the inspiration behind your collections? It’s always the idea of designing for a strong confident independent woman.
Describe your ideal consumer. My ideal consumer is a professional confident women aged 25 to 50 old.
What is your favourite piece and why? My favorite pieces are always my finale dresses. They represent a luxurious and glamorous world, a dress that allows a woman to escape from reality.
If you could have any celebrity spokes model, who would it be and why? Madonna! She is beautiful, sexy and so talented. Madonna constantly takes risks without any fear and always comes out with the biggest success of all the time, no matter what it is she does. That is exactly the kind of woman I represent.
What store would you love to have your clothes in? Bergdorf , Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Barneys,Geoffrey
What does 2014 hold for the brand? Hopefully the brand will continue to expand in to the the USA and European market.
