This week the Nolcha Fashion Week: New York team had the chance to catch up with New York based independent designer Rachel Gregory to find out what 2014 holds for her brand Gregory Apparel.
Gregory Apparel is a women’s ready to wear brand with the brand philosophy to make fashion forward, modern designs accessible for almost any figure.
Since graduating from the Apparel Design Program in Seattle 2001, designer Rachel Gregory has had a winding road of different experiences, from theater costume building to technical design for production at Elie Tahari with many odd jobs in between; learning many different facets of garment creation.
How would you describe your brand? Feminine, modern minimalist with a dash of prep. Trend relevant that’s wearable and fit accessible.
What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far? Showing at Williamsburg Fashion Weekend last year and because of this my label was mentioned in the Gothamist. A double whammy of highlights.
What is the inspiration behind a particualr piece in your collection? Um… Honestly, the individual items are part of a collective. The garments are spontaneously thought up with a blending of designs I have created in the past but the collection it’s self is inspired by the color and shape of succulent terrariums and the ultra feminine energy of a garden tea party and flowers in bloom.
Describe your ideal consumer. Women 27 to 45, creative urban professionals, a woman that appreciates perfectly tailored clothing.
What is your favourite piece and why? So far, Dress #5 is my personal fav. I love it for it’s combination of modern and feminine.
What stores would you love to have your clothes in? Kirne Zabete, Opening Ceremony, Edit
What does 2014 hold for the brand? Recognition.
For SS2015, GA is going higher end with lux silk fabrics, soft greyed pastels and a greater variety of dress silhouettes. It’s a bit of a departure from the previous collections. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
