After showcasing her SS15 collection on the Nolcha Fashion Week: New York runway, we were desperate to catch up with independent fashion designer Rinat Brodach to find out what is next in line for the brand.
At an early age, Rinat knew that she wanted to be a fashion designer. Her curiosity of the draping and movement of fabric led her to further exploration of fashion. In her early childhood she used fashion as a mode of expression and continues to do so today.
After serving in the Israeli Air Force and powered with a stronger sense of self and direction, she moved to San Francisco in 2005 to attend the Academy of Art University. There she received her BFA in Fashion Design.
During her senior year, Rinat’s thesis collection was honored with a year long scholarship in Paris. In 2010 she moved to Paris to attend The Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. That same year Rinat had her work published in Emerging Fashion Designers 2 by Sally Congdon-Martin. She remained in Paris for one more year working in the fashion house of Steffie Christiaens, among others, before returning to the United States in 2012 where she settled in New York City to start her own brand.
Why did you decide to become a fashion designer? Ever since I was young I knew what I wanted to do with my life and I knew I wanted to design clothes.
What’s it like being in the fashion industry? Being in the fashion industry is exciting, fun, nerve wracking at times …. MY LIFE . Anything can happen and you need to be able to come up with solutions very fast.
How would you describe your brand? I would describe my brand as chic, sexy, dark, feminine, strong, with high end finishings.
What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far? So far the biggest highlight of my career has been being able to show my clothing for the first time during fashion week and what a better place then New York.
What is the inspiration behind a particular piece from your collection? I take my inspirations very deeply. It comes from a place of emotion and soul. Like the dress I have with the twist under the heart, that was inspired by opening up the heart and the twist was placed under the heart to reflect how emotions get twisted. I wanted to show the rawness of the emotion coming out.
Describe your ideal consumer. My ideal consumer is a strong woman. She thinks out of the box, nothing stops her from achieving her goals in life. She runs her own show or has a high end artsy job where she can wear what she wants everyday. She has an eclectic taste in fashion. she can mix and match different items but she will always look like a millions dollars.
What is your favourite piece and why? My favorite look is the “Open heart jacket” with the “Draped shorts” because it’s just so powerful. I feel like a woman can wear this to work and just change her shoes and jewelry and be ready for a night out!
If you could have any celebrity spokesmodel, who would it be and why? This one is hard! I have a bunch of celebrities in mind. From Madonna, Beyonce, Naomi Campbell, Tilda Swinton and more…. all these Women symbolize power, powerful women!
What store would you love to have your clothes in? My two dream stores to get in to are Barneys and L’Eclaireur (Paris, France)
What does 2014 hold for the brand? I will have to trust my journey on this one. keep on working hard and positive thinking.
“Trust yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do this. You can do whatever you put your head to it. You have the power to rise or to fall the question is what do you want.”
