Ones to Watch ACID NYC
We took some time to catch up with one part of the husband/wife duo behind independent Made in NYC brand ACID NYC, Evelyn Luna. Evelyn gave us some great insight into the inspiration behind the brand, the challenges they face in the industry and what 2016 holds for the brand
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A FASHION DESIGNER
Since I was 4 years old I spent most of my time drawing and later doing fashion sketches. My mom was an excellent seamstress who made all our clothes and would take me to the factory with her on my days off from school. I was exposed to manufacturing early on. It was at the High School of Art & Design that I truly discovered my passion for fashion and art.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR BRAND?
We are a lifestyle brand for confident, independent and dynamic people who want to make a statement and appreciate art, nature and quality clothing. Our clothing and accessories focus on modern details and silhouettes for men and women. Our prints are bold, colorful and inspire a message of being visually aware of the beauty in your everyday surroundings. Our styling is smart, sexy, unique yet very wearable.
WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE BEING IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY?
The biggest challenges new designers face in the fashion industry are achieving sales in such a competitive market and being able to manufacture at an affordable price.
WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR INSPIRATION FROM WHEN CREATING YOUR NEW COLLECTIONS?
We find inspiration in the many things surrounding us in our everyday lives, an object, an image or something interesting in our travels. Sometimes we inspire each other!
WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCE?
My partner and husband, who always inspires me to look further down the road, and find a different path to get there faster than expected.
WHAT DOES 2016 HOLD FOR THE BRAND?
We are looking to broaden our exposure locally as well as nationwide. We will be participating in Fort Lauderdale Fashion Week, Miami Fashion/Swim week and Coast trade show here in Miami. We look forward to selling at several new boutiques this year.
