Runway Recap: The Vanity Project at Nolcha Fashion Week: New York presented by RUSK SS14

Designer Name:  Omri Bojko and Jason Sochol

Label Name:  The Vanity Project – Wear Real Collection

Background: Omri and Jason met at Northwestern University. After Jason’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, both he and Omri started helping out at events for several Chicago non-profits. They noticed that many organizations had ugly, uncomfortable t-shirts. T-shirts are a crucial advocacy tool for non-profits, and when done right, they create conversations that spread awareness for the cause. TVP has since partnered with over 30 non-profits to help them create gear that people actually want to wear.

Vision: TVP creates stylish and sustainable apparel that doesn’t skimp on quality or comfort.  For Nolcha, we will be continuing our eco-friendly line featuring unique materials that will significantly reduce our carbon footprint. We’re also planning to expand our line beyond t-shirts without losing our commitment to creating clothing with purpose. Fashion is a powerful way to help non-profits become culturally relevant and resonate with a larger audience. We want people to think about what they wear rather than buy what’s handed to them by the large chain stores.

Signature Style: Understated designs, comfortable fabrics, and superior fit. Meaningful logo designs on clothes that you actually want to wear. For this season, we’ll be breaking out some new designs with even more impact.

Influence: We got sick of graphic t-shirts that don’t mean anything. You can’t walk down the street without seeing someone wearing a shirt sporting a logo like “Varsity Hockey 1965” or “Where’s the Beef”. We weren’t even alive in 1965, and can only guess that the beef is in the fridge. We know that graphic T’s are the uniform of our generation –  we’re just trying engage people around their purchasing habits while providing them with an alternative that looks awesome.

Brand philosophy: #WearReal — We think a t-shirt can be a billboard for good. Your clothes show off who you are, so show others what you stand for. #WearReal is a lifestyle for those who wear their values on their sleeve (sometimes literally).
